Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association has condemned Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasia for allegedly threatening a Kakamega magistrate for handing him an unfavourable ruling.

It is claimed threatening to kill magistrate over unfavourable ruling in a Sh500,000 debt.

The association through its president Derrick Kuto now wants the MP arrested and charged for his actions of threatening resident magistrate Gladys Kiama, who was discharging her duties in official capacity.

Kuto condemned the threats terming it as careless, Precambrian and pedestrian action. He further said it was a disgrace to the nation and the legislator lowered the value of the office that he occupies.

“This is not an isolated incident. Many of our members have been harmed and killed in line of duty while others have had to resign. Therefore, an attack on anyone of us is an attack on all of us,” says Kuto.
Kuto further revealed that the association has appointed an advocate to represent the association with instructions to ensure the MP is prosecuted.

He said the security situation obtaining in Kakamega station brings to the fore the unfortunate and sorry state the Judicial officers find themselves in. They are vulnerable and exposed, he said.

“The action by Salasya to openly threaten a magistrate for doing her judicial work stinks to hell. That he even went ahead to post cryptic stuff about the incident is even worse. His proxies have equally threatened to harm our sister,” state Kuto in the statement.

Kuto added that it was in the public domain that a report has since been made and the DCI is investigating the same.

“Given the public interest involved, we call upon the relevant agencies to speed up the investigations. The said gentleman should be arrested forthwith to face the full force of the law. Such entities are not good for the society,” he said.

According to the police, the MP has switched off his mobile phones and gone into hiding.

They have asked him to surrender and record a statement.
