SAFARICOM EMPLOYEE ACCUSED OF STEALING CLOSE TO SH30 MILLION FROM POLICE SACCO.

A Safaricom employee has been charged with conspiracy to steal Sh29.5 million from National Police Sacco through fraudulently registered sim cards.

David Obwanga Adoyo appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe and denied charges.

The charges stated that Adoyo, a trade development representative at the telco, several identity cards to register mobile lines, which were later linked to the deposit taking Sacco’s Fosa account and where the millions were withdrawn.

The court was told that the Safaricom employee aided or abetted the stealing of the millions from the police Sacco.

Count one stated that he unlawfully used the identity card Number 8518991 belonging to Godfrey Njuguna Lucas to register a Safaricom mobile line number, without his consent. It is alleged that he committed the offence between August 29 and 30, 2021 at an unknown place within Nairobi County.

It is further alleged that he used the identity card Number 88* belonging to Peris Njoki Mwangi to register Safaricom mobile line, without her consent on the same date and in Nairobi. Further charges stated that he used the identity Card Number 5022303 belonging to Charles Maina Gichura to register another Safaricom mobile line, without his consent.

He is accused that between 29th and 30th August 2021 being a Safaricam PLC employee as a Trade Development Representative, you unlawfully made use of Identity Card Number 87** belonging to Beth Wambui Murage to register Safaricom mobile line number 7953**** without her consent.

The court directed him to deposit bond of Sh5 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh 1 million, to secure his release.
