Rogue ‘doctor’ Mugo wa Wairimu has been charged afresh with rape and masquerading as a gynecologist.
He has also been charged with operating a clinic without a valid licence.
The fake doctor was charged afresh as sections of the law are being amended, Chief magistrate Daniel Ogembo told a Court.
He sacked his lawyer after he failed to show up in court saying he didn’t take the case seriously and he needed time to instruct a sober lawyer to handle his case. However, the rogue doctor denied the charges.
He was also charged with administering unknown drugs to a person, unlawfully carrying out the business of a Pharmacist yet not registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, stocking and using unvalidated medical laboratory reagents and employing unregistered and unlicensed laboratory technologist.
Mugo allegedly raped a woman at his Githurai 44 clinic in November last year according to prosecutors.
Mugo was exposed by a local TV station for allegedly raping his clients in clinics he was operating in Nairobi’s Githurai and Zimmerman estates.
He was also charged with operating a laboratory without the approval of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board, practicing as unregistered and unlicensed person and possession of irradiation device without licence.
After the expose, Mugo remained a free man for over a week despite the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board revealing that it had previously closed his clinics and handed him over to police for investigations.
Angry residents of Nairobi’s Githurai 44 milled outside the Prestige Healthcare Clinic baying for his blood for the acts he had allegedly committed.
The case was set the hearing for May 4th and 5th but cautioned that he would not adjourn the matter any other time.
