The Inspector General of Police Mr Joseph Boinett has cast his net wider to weed out rogue police officers attached to leaders who get involved in actions that disturb law and order.

The IG cautioned all police officers attached to VIP protection to refrain from getting involved in situations that may be in breach of the law while accompanying their respective VIPs.

He said, “All officers have been reminded to discharge their duties in strict conformity with the law and the service standing orders.”

Mr Boinett also said that any officers involved in such illegal actions that breach peace will have themselves to blame as they should uphold their oath of office which primary duty is to promote peace.

“Any officer who accompanies VIP in any situation that may be in breach of any law, will be held equally culpable to severe disciplinary sanctions that may include dismissal as well as court action,” he said in a statement sent to news rooms.

This comes in the wake of planned protests by the Cord coalition to try ousting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC.

The directive affects all police officers attached to VIPs and has far reaching implications considering that one has no control over what their attaché does.
