Athletics coach Claudio Berardelli will spend five days behind bars to enable Anti- Narcotics Unit officers conclude investigations into alleged suspicious activities he has been engaging in.

This after a Magistrate Court granted the prosecution’s request to continue holding Mr Berardelli.

The court agreeing with the prosecution said it was satisfied that the reasons advanced to support the request were reasonable.

“The prosecution has given compelling reasons and doping being a serious offence locally and internationally, it is a matter which needs serious attention,” explained Senior Principal Magistrate Joyce Gandani.

The court heard that Mr Berardelli had alleged that he is an authorized representative of IAAF yet he opted to effect lawful purposes of athletics by unlawful means.

“His activities are still questionable and are under investigations,” the prosecutor told court.

The prosecution also said their investigations will involve travelling to Nandi County, Uasin Gishu County, Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kisii County, and Trans Nzoia County for further investigations and recording.

He was detained at Kileleshwa police station.

The case will be mentioned on July 12.
