BY NT REPORTER.

A detective officer who allegedly killed a man on February 28 at Ngara Fig tree market stalls while having driy has been detained for five days to allow police complete  investigations.

Nairobi court heard that Joseph Wambugu Wanjau and the deceased Juma Mwibithi allegedly had a disagreement at a social place at Ngara Fig tree market stalls.

According to a report submitted by Inspector Michael Nduva Mutua who is from DCI headquarters, Wanjau pushed the deceased where he fell down, hit the pavement and started bleeding from the mouth.

The deceased was rushed to Guru Nanak hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The case was reported at Parklands Police Station and taken up by Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

The police wanted the suspect detained for seven days claiming that they needed to recover the CCTV cameras and telephone exploitations from the accused person.

“Since the incident happened in front of a CCTV camera it is necessary to exploit the same for purposes of investigations,” said the Investigating officer Joseph Muchai in court.

The application was opposed by Wanjau’s lawyer Kirathe Wandugi who said that Wanjau took himself to the police.

Wandugi told Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure that Wanjau was injured during the disagreement and was in need of proper medical treatment.

“It would be unnecessary to hold him in custody as he has fully cooperated with the investigations,” said Wangugi.

However, Magistrate Mugure noted that it was evident that a life was lost and witnesses were yet to record statement.

She directed the suspect be held for five days at Kileleshwa police station pending investigation.

Magistrate ordered the suspect to be produced in court on 7 of March for further directions.
