The late world marathon champion Samuel Wanjiru’s mother holds that her son was killed by his wife according to CCTV footage.

Ms Hannah Wanjiru narrated to the court how CCTV footage showed her son Wanjiru being maimed by his wife on the night of May 15 2011.

The frail and aging woman told the court that the footage revealed Triza NJeri, her late sons wife walk into the compound eighteen minutes after Wanjiru drove in.

Two minutes later a woman followed and suddenly the lights went off.

Ms Wanjiru said that immediately a group of 6 people walked into the compound with spotlights on and went straight to the house.

Moments later, a car was driven into the compound but soon left with the people.

Immediately they were out of the compound, lights went on and they could see from the footage Njeri walk out while on Phone.

A few moments later, she said three men well known to her walked in. They were however unable to access any footage on the happenings in the house.

On entering the house, she noticed blood on her sons’ bedroom door and got scared and as she proceeded into the bedroom, she saw two metal bars which she believed were used to brutally kill her son.

She was testifying in an inquest over Wanjiru’s death where the wife Triza is the key suspect.

The athlete’s mother said that while watching the CCTV footage she questioned Njeri in the presence of the three people who she said were James Mara, a former lorry driver to the deceased, Stephen Maina Gichuru her niece and Gaithu Maina, Wanjiru’s colleague.

According to her, Njeri said the three had gone to pick Wanjirus’ body.

She further questioned how they knew that her son had fallen but at that point Njeri stated crying and walked out leaving her, the police officers and other people who were watching the footage.

Hearing continues.
