The trial of Standard Chartered Manager and an employee of National Bank of Kenya charged with stealing sh 163 million from Eco Bank will proceed on 21 September.

Peter Ndegwa Gathaiya and Roy Gatobu Njira allegedly stole the said money from Eco Bank Limited Head office in Nairobi.

The court heard that they committed the offense on dates between March 26 2015 and September 18 2015.

They allegedly conspired with others who were not before the court to steal sh 163,028,622,

They appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Miriam Mugure and denied the charges.

Through his lawyer, Gathaiya who is a bank manager at Standard Chartered Headquarters requested for favorable terms on grounds that he was a father of two daughters and the sole breadwinner.

The court heard that he was not a flight risk and ready to abide by courts orders.

On his part, Njira also requested to be released on favorable bond terms saying that he was an outstanding member of the society.

The court heard that he was a teller employee at Eco Bank before he left to work for National Bank of Kenya.

His lawyer told the court that the accused was easily traceable and a father of two kids.

The Prosecution counsel did not oppose their release on bond but urged the court to consider the amount involved in the case.

Magistrate Mugure released them on a bond of sh 1.5 million with a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of sh 500,000.
