Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is the centre of a simmering dispute between the national government and the courts.

The High Court has summoned Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i and IG Joseph Boinett over Kalonzo’s security withdrawal.

The government gave the withdrawal directive following Kalonzo’s involvement in NASA mock swearing in on January 30.

Justice Roselyn Aburili ordered the Interior CS and the IG to appear before her to show cause why they should not be held in contempt of court for failing to reinstate Kalonzo Musyoka security.

“I hereby invoke section 30 and issue notice to show cause to the Ist respondent and 2nd respondents to appear before court and show cause why contempt of court proceedings cannot be commenced against them for allegedly disobeying this court orders made on 7/2/2018,” ruled Justice Aburili

The judge gave the orders following accusations that the two state officers have failed to comply with stay orders issued by the court.

Earlier this month, the court barred the government from withdrawing Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s security detail.

Justice Roselyne Aburili also issued orders stopping the government from revoking the NASA co-principal firearm licence.

The court further prohibited the state from arresting Kalonzo in respect to having the firearm.

In the orders, Justice Aburili directed the chief licensing officer to renew and reinstate the firearm certificate which had been issued to Kalonzo within 10 days after the orders.
