Laikipia Governor Nderitu Mureithi will support any development idea, make it a reality and sustainable.

Governor Mureithi said that innovative ideas are the realistic way to end unemployment.

“My Government will support business ideas until they mature and find their way into local and international market,” he said.

Speaking in Nyahururu during the closure of a two day innovation fair, the governor said his government recognizes and supports the private sector in the county because it is a key pillar in job and employment creation.

“We have a target of creating over 30,000 jobs and it is our deep seated conviction that this will be realized through a more robust and active business,’’ he said.

Over 50 innovations were exhibited after a rigorous vetting.

The ideas ranged from agricultural, manufacturing, energy and information communication technologies (ICT).

They included a Helicopter, Tuk Tuk, a model tractor, a two wheeler planter, a tomato processor model, juice and beverage production from the Opuntia cactus plant among others.

The aim of the innovation was to establish original Laikipia brands, link the bearer innovators to the market and financiers and guide them on patenting.

Laikipia County Government has vowed to continue supporting such ideas in conjunction with Kenya Commercial Bank Foundation, Equity Bank, Cooperative Bank, Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation, Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenyatta, Dedan Kimathi and Laikipia universities among others.

His expertise stemming from his service as Assistant Minister for Industrialisation between 2008 and 2013, Governor Muriithi is hopeful of turning Laikipia into an industrialized County.

He added that the greatest direction to development involves a full change of altitude, self-belief, motivation and the general conviction that an idea can actually be developed to work.
