Milimani Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe said the suspects Grace Wairimu Machatha, Erascos Katiku Josiah, Niyitegeka Sevelin, Dushimirimana Egide, Zilimwabagabu Jacrues and Ngaragura Emmanuel should be held at Kilimani Police Station to allow the police complete investigations.

The police were seeking for ten days to complete the investigations saying the suspecst were arrested on Monday evening.  “This matter is being investigated by Flying Squad Unit Nairobi and is a case of being in possession of fake gold nuggets contrary to section 203 of Mining Act No. 12 of 2016 laws of Kenya,” Corporal Alfa Ochieng said in an affidavit.

He said the officers were acting on information from members of the public and went to Lenana 51 apartments along Lenana Road within Kilimani area and managed to arrest the six suspects.

Ochieng said the suspects will lead the investigating team to apprehend other suspects who are still at large and are believed to be hiding in Nairobi and other towns.

He said they intend to contact more witnesses who have probably been defrauded by the suspects using fake gold nuggets. Further, he said the police will also need to visit the Immigration offices to verify whether Niyitegeka Sevelin, Dushimirimana Egide, Zilimwabagabu Jacrues and Ngaragura Emmanuel are in the country illegally.

He added the suspects are at flight risk and if let out on bond or bail or interfere with investigation.
