Two taxmen have been charged with obtaining 800 bibles by false pretense.

The court heard that Reuben Rogoi Maina and John Mapesa Andulu obtained the 800 bibles valued at Sh900,000 from Bible Transition and Literacy East Africa.

They appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and pleaded not guilty to fraud charges.

It is alleged that the accused persons had on May 16, 2019 at Bible Translation and Literacy (EA) in upper Hill, with intent to defraud, obtained from Faith Mawia Mulunga 300 pieces of New King James Bibles, 200 pieces of Good News Bibles and 300 pieces of New International Version Bibles, all valued Ksh 900,000.

The prosecution alleged that the two also May 17, at around 1300hrs drove to Bible Translation and Literacy (EA) office in Upper Hill area Nairobi in a Toyota Fielder, stole some 800 pieces of different version of Bible all valued Kshs. 680,000.

The two were released on a cash of 200,000 and bond of 500,0000.

The trial will start on July 1.
