Two people have been charged with falsely obtaining more than Sh2 million by claiming they could supply the United Nations with Lankhorst tug rope.

Leileen Babra alias Kethline and Sydney Kiptoo Koech appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku and pleaded not guilty to the charges. The rope is used in tug and towing industry.

The court heard that on January 21 at Co-operative Bank Eastleigh branch, in Nairobi jointly with others not before court, the two obtained Sh800,000 from Zuberi Khali Mutie.

It is alleged that they pretended that a tender No. UNOPS/KOEH/ITB/01/2020 dated May 4, 2020 and UNOPS purchase order, for the supply of tug rope, was genuine documents from the United Nations office for Project Services (UONPS),

The Court further heard on January 19, at Shell petrol station Langata road in Nairobi, the accused persons obtained a further Sh1.75 million pretending they were in a position to supply the same Lankhost Tag rope.

They were released on a bond of Sh1 million or alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 each. The case will be mentioned on February 10 for further directions.
