A former Moi Girls High School student who caused a fire that led to the death of nine of her colleagues has been found guilty of manslaughter.

The student had previously been charged with nine counts of murder but after the hearing and assessment of evidence by trial judge Stella Mutuku, said that prosecution did not adduce sufficient evidence to sustain the offence of murder.

The student committed the offence in 2017 and she was charged before High Court judge Luka Kimaru where she denied the charges.

Justice Mutuku directed the girl to be held at Langata women prison until January 4 next year, when she will be brought before court for mitigation and sentencing.
