CAR DEALER CHARGED OVER SH7 MILLION FRAUD.

A car dealer has been charged with defrauding a businessman of Sh5.4 million.

Onesmus Mboya alias Awiti Josphat appeared before Milimani Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and denied fraud charges.

Mboya is accused of obtaining Sh5,448,749 from Muthomi Maitima Nchurai, an offence he allegedly committed on diverse dates between September 9 and October 23, 2021 at Nairobi. He is alleged to have committed the offence jointly with others not before court, with intent to defraud.

The court heard that Mboya falsely pretended that he was in position to sell a motor vehicle, which was being auctioned by Kenya Revenue Authority customs yard at Mombasa.

He is also accused of obtaining Sh1, 530,000 from Nyerere Nyamai by falsely pretending they were in a position to acquire on his behalf a motor vehicle, being auctioned by KRA at its customs yard in Mombasa.

The dealer was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000, after being reviewed downwards from Sh500,000.

Later Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti announced they discovered over 450 genuine motor vehicle logbooks have been recovered at a cyber cafe in Nairobi, as detectives intensify a crackdown on organized criminal gangs in the city. In yet another criminal enterprise implicating some crooked officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
