Two men have been charged with obtaining over Sh1 million in fake gold racket.

Collins Akenga Chavera and Rodgers Kipkogei allegedly obtained Sh1.4 million from Rodgers Monari Machoka.

The court heard that they falsely pretended that they were in a position to sell Machoka pure gold from Congo, a fact they knew to be false.

The charge sheet stated that the duo committed the offense on diverse dates between January 17 and 21, 2022 jointly wih others not before court.

The court further heard that the two conspired to defraud Machoka the Sh 1,426,500.

Chavera is also charged with personation after presenting himself as Faisal Mangal Bakari, with intent to defraud.

The court heard that he impersonated himself on diverse dates between January 15 and 26, this year in Nairobi and Nakuru counties.

He further faces charges of obtaining registration of a Safaricom number pretending to be Bakari and another in the name of Dennick Ijeji

The duo is also charged with preparation to commit a felony of personation and obtaining money by false pretenses after they were found with 103 Kenyan identity cards of different people.

Kipkogei is also facing charges of preparation to commit a felony after being found in possession of assorted unregistered Safaricom simcards.

He is also charged with obtaining registration by false pretences pretending to be Linus Rotich and Nicholas Cheruiyot.

The accused persons denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi.

They were granted a cash bail of Sh 600,000 each plus one contact person.
