Activist Boniface Mwangi has been ordered to appear in court in person and show cause why he should not be jailed for disobeying court orders.
Machakos Judge George Odunga directed Mwangi to appear on Tuesday, before court personally in a case where Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has sued him for defamation.
Mutua through lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui filed contempt of court proceedings against Mwangi saying he has disobeyed court orders prohibiting him from publishing information about him.
The orders barred him from publishing information about him in the print, electronic or online media.
Governor Mutua says the activist disobeyed the order by posting information on his Twitter account on January on January 6 and 9, 2022.
“Boniface Mwangi be held in contempt of court for having acted in breach of court issued on October 26,2021, duly served upon him and whose terms are known to him at all material times”, said Governor Mutua.
If convinced that he breached the court order, the Machakos county Governor wants Mwangi committed to civil jail or pay a fine.
Mutua moved to the High Court late last year and stopped Mwangi from further defaming the Governor.
“An interim injunction is hereby granted restraining Mr Mwangi or his agents, from publishing in any print or electronic media, on any electronic or web-hosted platform, such defamatory material, concerning Governor Mutua,”Justice Muigai ordered.
The Governor pleaded with the court to bar the activist from publishing in any print, electronic media, on any electronic or any web-hosted platform, repeating any publication, innuendos, insinuation, allegations or statement linking him to distraction of his Lukenya house
