The director of an engineering company company has been charged with evading tax thereby denying Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) millions of shillings.

James Musungu Rapando, the director of Widrups Group ltd appeared before Milimani chief magistrate Wendy Kagendo and denied several charges related to failure to remit income tax.

The charges stated that the company omitted income tax amounting to Sh21.9 million for the year 2013, thereby occasioning KRA loss of Sh6.5 million. The court heard that he committed the offence between January 1 and June 30, 2014.

It us further alleged that with others not before court, Rapando omitted income tax returns for the year 2014 amounting to Sh32.6 million, which ought to have been declared to the commissioner thereby occasioning KRA income tax loss of Sh9.7 million.

The court ordered him to deposit cash bail of Sh1 million or bond of Sh2 million, to secure his release.
