A Marsabit sheikh accused of terrorism has told a Nairobi court that he will prefer to remain in prison in case he is acquitted of the charges.

Sheikh Guyo Garso through lawyer John Khaminwa said he fears for his life and that he might be harmed if the court exonerates him on the terror charges.

The cleric claimed that people who have been acquitted of terrorism charges have been abducted, killed or dissappeared without a trace.

From those incidences, Garso wants an assurance from the state that he will be safe if acquitted.

The accused person told the court that he has written a two paged letter to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Mating’i seeking an assurance that he will not be harmed but the response was not satisfactory.

Dr Kaminwa told Milimani chief magistrate Wendy Kagendo to either summon the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti to court and assure his client of his safety once acquitted .

He also requested to be allocated officers to escort him to his his homeland and the names of those officers to be recorded in court.
