Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has hailed the Judiciary for upholding the constitution and emphasizing the doctrine of separation of powers.

While congratulating the top court judges, the legislator said the judges have done Kenyans proud by dismissing plans to amend the constitution through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

In a majority decision, the judges faulted President Kenyatta for initiating the amendment of the constitution through popular initiative, saying the president does not have such powers.

The young legislator agreed with the Judges saying the whole process was unconstitutional because of lack of public participation.

The Nandi Senator said President Kenyatta and former prime minister Raila Odinga had no capacity to initiate changes in the constitution.

He also claimed that the initiative involved a lot of corruption in which MCAs were promised to ve given car loans and local chiefs used to collect signatures contrary to the law.

The BBI is an expensive exercise that needed expertise and envolvement of all Kenyans.
