TAX DRIVER DENIES SH12.6 MILLION MILLION FRAUD CHARGES.

A taxi driver from Germany has been charged with obtaining Sh12Sh. 12,654,800 million pretending that he was in a position to sell trucks to a Kenyan businessmen.

Abdukadir Bootaan Kheyre was accused of obtaining the money from Abdisaafi Musa Omar by pretending to be in a position to sell him three German truck vehicles.

It is alleged that he committed the offence on diverse dates between September 3, 2021 and November 2, 2021 jointly with another before court.

The charges further stated that on October 18, 2021 at unknown place jointly with another before court, the taxi driver obtained Sh3.6 million from Yusuf Osman by falsely pretending to be in a position to sell him two German trucks.

The court heard that on September 24, 2021, at unknown place jointly with another before court he also obtained Sh1.5 million from Ali Mohammed Noor by falsely pretending to be in a position to sell him one German truck vehicle.

Additionally, Kheyre is accused that on November 3, 2021 at unknown place in Kenya, jointly with another before court, he allegedly defraud Abdisaafi Musa Omar Sh1 million by means of pretending to be carrying a genuine business of importing trucks from Germany.

Kheyre denied committing the offense when he appeared before Milimani Law court Senior principle magistrate Bernard Ochoi.

The prosecution opposed his release on bail on grounds that he is a flight risk. The court heard that he has been on the run since his accomplice was arrested on November 4, 2022.

“His travel history from immigration office indicates that he has a German passport and travels occasionally,” the state prosecutor said.

The state further submitted that Kheyre is formally a Somali national but changed his citizenship to German national.

He was arrested at Urban Hotel in Eastleigh where he has been hiding since he came to Kenya on April 1, as indicated in his passport.

The prosecutor informed the court that upon recording his statement, the accused indicated that he is a taxi driver in German where he stays with his family.

He alleged not to have indicated to the police where he lives or what he does in Kenya.

“The accused person has not indicated to the police the activities he is carrying out in Kenya nor given evidence of his permanent residence where he can be found when need be,” state added.

He was remanded until on Tuesday April 26, 2022.
