SIX KNH EMPLOYEES DENY STEALING CANCER DRUGS WORTH SH4.6 MILLION.

Six employees of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) have been charged with stealing cancer drugs worth over Sh4 million.

The accused persons work at the facility’s Prime Care Center pharmacy, a department within KNH and the assortment of drugs allegedly came into their possession by virtue of their employment.

The six are Emily Nyambura Kagochi, Philip Odhiambo Owino, Mary Mumo Wanjiru, Yvonne Muthoni Mbuthia, Rose Jepkogei Chepkok and Maureen Adingo Anyor.

They appeared before Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo and denied several charges of conspiracy to steal the drugs.

The court heard that they conspired to commit the offence between April 5 and May 24, 2022 jointly with others not before court. In total, the employees allegedly stole drugs worth Sh4,675,147.

Kagochi, Owino, Mbuthia and Chepkok were separately charged with stealing cancer drugs valued at Sh3,665,147.6 which got to their possession by virtue of their employment at the hospital.

It is alleged that they committed the offence on April 5, 2022 at the KNH pharmacy.

The court granted them a bond of Sh1 million each or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 to secure their release.
