Two women accused of obtaining Sh 300 million from members of the public have been detained for six days pending completion of investigations.

Mary Ndunge Mutuku and Mary Wanjiru Ndung’u have been detained after the investigating officer Chief Inspector Eunice Njue attached at DCI central police station approached the court seeking to detain them for more days to enable her to complete investigations into the alleged conspiracy to defraud members of the public.

She told Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi that the two days given by the court on Monday were not enough since the ruling was delivered at 2.30pm and could not accomplish much that day.

She added that Mary Mutuku’s mobile numbers that she has been using are not registering in her name adding that the number registered in her name has been out of service for some time.

The investigator also told the court that they have not managed to visit the second suspect’s home to conduct a search.

She added that they have received intelligence that they may recover more exhibits from the suspects and more complainants have emerged since they arrested the suspect.

According to the investigating officer, they have voluminous bank transactions which they need time to analyse before charging the two suspects in court.

The court heard that the complainants are too many and investigators have not secure all of their witness statements.

Some of those witnesses are employees/cronies of the respondents such that the respondents are in a position to intimidate or influence them (witnesses) in not availing their witness statements should the suspects be released at the moment.

Investigators were yet to summon officials of Wilson Mutumba Self-help group to confirm whether the suspects are its members as they alleged.

She further told the court that identification parades which are necessary in this case in which different witnesses are to attend were yet to attend.
