Joseph Irungu alias Jowie and former TV journalist Jacque Maribe have a case to answer in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

High Court judge Grace Nzioka ruled Wednesday that Irungu and his former fiancé Maribe should defend themselves over the gruesome murder of Kimani.

The businesswoman had returned to the country from South Sudan when she met her death. Her lidless body was found in a bathtub, with her throat slit ear to ear.

The prosecution called a total of 35 witnesses in the case and it was the Judge’s ruling that the duo should be placed on their defence.

“I am satisfied that the prosecution has tabled enough evidence to put the two accused persons on their defense…You are aware at this point the court cannot delve into the analysis of the evidence,” she said.

Jowie through his lawyer Hassan Nandwa told the judge that he would call one witness in his defence. He said he will take about two hours in his testimony.

Maribe on the other hand told the court she will be giving sworn evidence and that she will call four witnesses to support her case.

“We will need a maximum of four hours due to the number of witnesses,” Maribe’s lawyer told the court.

The Judge directed the case to be heard on May 11.
