A Chinese national has been jailed for four months by a Nairobi court after pleading guilty to assaulting and causing bodily harm to a caretaker.

Xu Wen Liang pleaded guilty to assaulting William Welet Mette, a caretaker at Denis Garden Apartments in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.

Kibera Magistrate Monica Maroro gave Xu the option of paying a fine of Sh10,000 to avoid going to prison.

The charge stated that Xu assaulted Mette on 26th last month, causing him bodily harm.

Evidence presented to the court was that Mette was at his place of work on the fateful day at around 21:24 hours when Xu, who resides in one of the apartments, came down and assaulted him.

Prior to the incident, a taxi driver had dropped a client by the name Millicent Omani who is alleged to be Xu’s wife at the apartment.

Mette told the police the woman appeared highly intoxicated and quarreled with the taxi driver over his payment.

When the guard asked the taxi driver to leave, the woman went on the rampage and started hitting vehicles parked in the compound.

The police report further indicates that while Mette was trying to calm her and contain her from making any damage, Xu came from his house and started kicking him, assuming that the caretaker was attacking his partner.
