A Cameroonian has been charged with stealing more than Sh53 million in US dollars from a gold dealer.

Annourar Mohamed Sadate was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) before fleeing the country and was presented before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina where he denied the fraud charges.

Sadate is accused conspired to defraud Ismail Kolawole Adesina of USD 434,101 (equivalent to Sh. 53,828,400), an offence he allegedly committed on diverse dates between March 23 and December 18, last year.

The charge sheet stated the plotted the fraud in Kenya and other places outside the country, jointly with others before court.

The prosecution told the Nairobi court that Sadare falsely pretended that a Kenya Airway bill No. 706APX00129257 for export of 33kgs of Gold from Kenya to Dubai by Miles Outlets limited to Kolawole was a genuine.

The court heard that he committed the offence on diverse date between March23, and December 18, 2022 in various places within and outside Kenya, jointly with others who have already been charged.Sadare is further accused of knowingly and fraudulently uttering a forged Kenya Airways Airway Bill to Kolawole, purporting it to be a genuine document issued by Kenya Airways.

The bill was allegedly meant for shipment of 33kgs of gold from Kenya to Dubai by Miles Outlets, an offence he committed on October 7, 2022 at Hurlingham in Kilimani, Nairobi County.

Another count stated that he knowingly and fraudulently presented a forged National Bank of Kenya transaction receipts No. D 9817401 dated 3/10/2022 to Kolawole.

It is claimed that he purported that the receipt was genuine and issued by the lender for a cash deposit of $74,240 by Miles outlets Limited to Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for tax payment.

The prosecution through Anderson Gikunda opposed the release of Sadare on bail. The prosecutor also asked the court to consolidate the case with another, which is pending hearing before a different magistrate.
