A man in his 20s has been charged with scamming two Members of Parliament and stealing from them over half million shillings.

Bonface Kipngetich Kirui allegedly stole more than Sh683,000 through swapping their mobile sim cards and transferring funds to himself. He is also accused of borrowing loans from various mobile money lending apps.

Kirui appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied eight counts of unauthorized interference to computer data, stealing and identity theft.

The charges stated that he committed the offences on April 12, 2023 at unknown place in Kenya.

He allegedly stole Sh.547,567.00 from Kenya Commercial bank account held in the name of Marakwet East MP Timothy Kipchumba Toroitich.

Kirui is also accused of stealing Sh133,785 from Matungulu MP Stephen Mule.

The charge sheet said he committed the offence on diverse dates between March 24 and 26, this year at unknown place and time, jointly with others not before court.

The money was in MPs MPesa account and that he went ahead and borrowed loans from Timiza Account, Mshwari account, Vooma App, KCB M-Pesa account and KCB Bank account.

He is also facing charges of illegal possession of identity cards belonging to other persons. The accused person will remain in custody, pending a ruling on his bail application.
