Embakasi East MP Babu Owino claims to have spent more than Sh58.7 million for treatment and upkeep of a deejay he is alleged to have short and injured more than three years ago.

Defending himself before Milimani senior principal magistrate Bernard Ochoi, the legislator tabled a list of expenses incurred for the medication of Felix Olinda popularly known as Dj Elvove.

Owino is allged to have shot the deejay on January 17, 2020, at a club in Kilimani, an incident that changed Evolve’s life.

The MP told Ochoi that he is committed to supporting the injured DJ because of their longtime friendship that started way back in 2015.

The expenses included accumulated hospital bills amounting to Sh23 million, the purchase of a house in Kilimani for Sh8 million and a similar amount for salary for two nurses taking care of the Deejay.

Other expenses are one physiotherapist and 2 occupational therapists at Sh300,000 every month totaling to Sh11.1 million and Orinda’s monthly upkeep at Sh70,000 every totaling to Sh2.5 million.

The two-term MP also said he has spent Sh5.5 million for medicine and other consumables and corrective surgery in order to repair Orinda’s speech at Sh2 million.

Owino testified that he had no gun inside the club even though he is a licensed gun holder

He claimed that the gun had been kept in the armoury inside the club.

He said that that from ballistic report presented to court no evidence was adduced by the Prosecution to show that the bullet shown the court merged with his firearm.

He further testified that his gun had three days ago charmed when he went he for range shooting at Ngong and he had planned to take it for service but due to commitment it had not been taken.

He told the court that from ten prosecution witnesses who testified none of them pointed a finger that he was involved in the shooting.

The court heard that the Prosecution did not even bring the results of the DNA tests taken at the government chemist to justify their case .

He said that none of the doctors from government chemist were called to come and testify.

The legislator said that the charges brought against him touching on being disorderly and holding a gun in the club were not justified.

He pointed out that even the video that was produced in court did not show him behaving disorderly or hold a gun as claimed.

He being led in his defense in chief by his Lawyers Duncan Okatch and Elisha Ogoya said that at sometime the DCI had recommended to the DPP to withdraw the criminal case against him.

He informed the court that he will be calling five witnesses who will support his evidence.

The matter was adjourned to 22rd June 2023.
