Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has alleged that International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan was appointed to intimidate Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance.

The MP claimed Kenya used its influence when it was a member of the UN Security Council to influence the appointment of Khan as the chief prosecutor of The Hague based Court.

Babu termed the appointment as a long con as Khan was Ruto’s counsel when he was facing charges of crimes against humanity.

“Khan was easily made prosecutor to intimidate us (Azimio) that no matter the outcome of election, we should know that the person who was representing Ruto at ICC is now a Chief Prosecutor at ICC and therefore we should be intimidated,” said MP Babu Owino.

Speaking after the mention of his case in which he wants to be heard within a week, Babu reiterated that they won’t be intimidated.

The ICC has since announced that Khan will not participate in any of the cases where Kenyan or Kenya is involved, to avoid conflict of interest.

Khan was on Friday, August 4 conferred an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Mount Kenya University for promotion of justice and humanity.

Khan is familiar to Kenyans for his role in defending President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court over his alleged role in crimes against humanity following the disputed 2007-08 post-election violence.
