A city resident has been charged with stealing almost Sh2 million from a company associated with musician Esther Akothee.

Simon Kipngetich Tonui appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina and denied several counts of stealing from Akothee.

Tonui is accused that on 9th September 2023 at Abdi Haj Company in Nairobi within Nairobi County, he stole Sh.6,390.00 from Aknotela Ent. Limited, held at Absa Bank.

The prosecution accused Tonui of Sh264,000 from the bank account on diverse dates between 7th August and 13th September 2023 at Absa Bank, Caltex Donholm.

The accused person allegedly stole the money from an ATM machine.

It is further alleged that on 14th September and 15th September 2023 at Absa Bank, Umoja Mutindwa ATM, Tonui stole another Sh 119,000.00 belonging to Aknotela Ent. Ltd.

The court directed the accused person to deposit a bond of Sh600,000 or alternative cash bail of Sh300,000, to secure his release.

The musician vented on her social media page saying she was disappointed with the lender as it has not communicated to her over the issue.

Akothee said Absa has zero customer relations revealing she has another case with Absa Bank pending in court.

“I just wonder a whole institution like Absa can handle their premium client like this with a relationship manager , how about the rest? She posed.
