LAWYER KILONZO JOINS THE RACE FOR KEY POST.

Veteran lawyer Wambua Kilonzo has joined the race for the position of Ad Hoc committee for elections for the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) chairperson and council for the years 2024 to 2029.

Lawyer Kilonzo who has vast experience having acted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in various cases announced his candidature after the position was advertised. 

The lawyer will be bringing 20-year wealth of experience in the committee if he clinches the post.

Last year, Kilonzo was appointed to chair the IEBC disputes tribunal, which raced against time to conclude electoral disputes in a tight schedule ahead of the polls.

The lawyer has 20 years post admission experience, with a wealth of experience in contentious and high stakes practice in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Kenya in the electoral laws including constitutional, and Judicial Review, related applications.

He possess a clear understanding of the legislative and policy framework, especially in the areas of electoral laws and related election dispute resolution matters.

Lawyer Kilonzo has served as Chairperson of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal (2019-2022) I transformed the same covid period. He has also served as Chairperson of the IEBC Nominations Disputes Resolution Committee (DRC ) (Panel 1) in 2022, I heard and determined 109 Election Candidate registration disputes over a 10 day period. (June 19-29th 2022).

He has also served as an Arbitrator appointed by the Chartered Institute of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya branch) have undertaken a significant number of private high value commercial arbitrations which have been upheld by the High Court of Kenya upon reference by the parties. 

The lawyer has further served as chairperson, board of management, Mbooni Girls High School, and has overseen transformation of the same from an extra county girls’ school (2013) to a leading National School in Makueni County in 2022 with an 85 percent transition of girls to public universities.
