A middle aged man has been charged with obtaining Sh15,000 pretending to be Mandera Woman Representative Umurkheir Kassim Sheikh.

Evans Mugendi Kirim appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi and denied the charges of obtaining money, publishing false information on social media and impersonation.

Mugendi is accused that on diverse dates between January 16th and 21st this year at known place obtained Sh10, 850 from Hussein Mohammed Adan by pretending he was the Mandera County women Representative.

It is alleged that he purported to be in a position to offer employment opportunity for Adan’s daughter a fact he knew was false.

The prosecution told the court that between 1st September last year and 8th February this year, at unknown place in Nairobi, Mugendi obtained Sh5, 000 from Mohamednoor Abdi.

It is alleged that he falsely pretended by representing himself as a Mandera Woman Representative and purporting to be in a position to offer grant from the county at facilitation fee.

Mugendi is also charged with using the name of Mandera Women Representative Umurkheir on Facebook to publish false information.

According to Prosecution, Mugendi posted that “Youth Funds Women funds, Grants and men business funds are now available financial year 2023-2024. Those interested to hit my inbox for guidance. Thank you.”

The information according to the prosecution was false and with intent to mislead.

Mugendi is further charged with false publication by posting that the office of the Mandera County women Representative Umurkheir had partnered with captain Motorbikes limited to give 200 Motorbikes to Mandera residents to create employment in the region.

He was released on a bond of Sh500, 000 or alternative cash bail of Sh 200,000.
The case will be mentioned on February 29th for further directions.

The Mandera Women Representative Umurkheir and a number of victims have been listed was witnesses in the case.
