Two terror suspects have been sentenced to 25 years in jail each for possession of improvised explosive devices six years ago.

Abdimajit Hassan and Mohamed Osman Nane were found guilty of conspiracy to commit a terror act and possession of the weapons for terrorist purposes.

The duo , however, will serve 19 years in jail after senior resident magistrate Zainab Abdul deducted the six years they were in remand from the sentence.

The magistrate said the sentence was lenient considering the nature of the offense they committed.

“The accused persons have already been in prison for the last 6 years hence the 25 years is inclusive of the 6 years that they have been in prison prior,” stated Zainab.

The duo were charged alongside Lydia Nyawira and three others, one of whom has since died, with conspiracy to commit a terrorist act, possession of weapons for terrorist purposes, forgery of documents among other charges.

Nyawira who was found guilty of forging an Identification Card was sentenced to three years in prison.

The two terrorists had initially been acquitted by the court stating that there was no evidence that were in any way involved with the act committed.

Hassan and Osman are imprisoned at Kamiti Maximum prison while Nyawira at Lang’ata Women’s Prison to begin their sentences.
