A man has been charged with impersonating a judicial officer based at the Nyahururu law courts.

Bernard Kipkirui appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi and denied the charge of representing himself as a magistrate.

The charge against Kipkirui stated that he committed the offence on diverse dates between 28th April and 3rd May 2024 in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) with intent to defraud Joan Chepkoech of Sh200,000.

The court heard that he obtained the money from Chepkoech by falsely pretending that he was in a position to facilitate her employment as a clerk in the Judiciary.

The prosecution further told the court that on the 24th April 2024 at Kaplong area within Bomet County, with intent to defraud, the imposter falsely represented himself to be an employee of the Judiciary stationed at Nyahururu law courts.

Kipkirui was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 plus one contact person.
