Italian athletics coach Claudia Berardeli with others have denied allegations of hurting athletes with banned substances.

The three-Claudia Berardeli,Stephen Kiplagat Tanui alias Kalya and Daniel Cheribo Kiplangat were jointly accused of conspiracy to injure a person in his profession.

Its alleged that on diverse dates between August and Sept 2014 in Kapsabet town within Nandi county jointly with others not before court they conspired to administer a prohibited substance through prohibited method in order to injure the profession of athlete Rita Jeptoo.

They were further accused of conspiracy to prevent Rita from lawful exercise of her profession and conspiracy to effect unlawful purpose.

“Despite the current allegations my client intends to nurture future talents in this country. Let the court give him an opportunity to defend himself and argue his case since we are ready to prove his innocence during the impending trial” Said Kemboy.

The DPP was not opposed to bail but urged the court to take into consideration the nature of the offence and its implication on Kenya’s competition at international athletics games.

Stephen Kiplagat Tanui faces two more charges of carrying on the business of pharmacist without registration and running a pharmacy without a name and displayed certificate.

Three others,Samson Kiprotich alias Talei,Ken kipchumba Limo and Joseph Karuri Mwangi have been accused for  conspiring to use st.Luke’s orthopaedic and Trauma Hospital unlawfully to promote the use of prohibited substance.

The six appeared before Nairobi-milimani senior principal magistrate Martha Mutuku.

They were released on a Sh200, 000 cash bail and Sh50,000 shillings respectively.

Proceedings resume October 25 and 26 2016.
