MAN DENIES THEFT OF SH54. 7 MILLION FROM BANK.

A man has been charged with conspiracy to defraud Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) Kenya Limited of Sh54.7 million.

Peter Wangai Wanjohi alias Mwngi Wanjohi Michael and Minhealth Unit appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot and pleaded not guilty to several counts.

He is accused that on or before April 2, 2020 at an unknown place jointly with others before court, conspired to defraud GT Bank of Sh54.7 million.

The prosecution told the court between April 2 and 30 at Guaranty Trust Bank limited, Skypark branch in Nairobi’s Westlands, jointly with others before court stole Sh4.2 million.

The court further heard that between March 26 and May 26, 2020 at Cooperative Bank of Kenya limited in Westlands, Nairobi jointly with others not before court, knowingly transferred Sh5,462,286 from an account held at the bank in the name of Minhealth Unit to twelve accounts held at Guaranty Trust Bank by various people.

He is also accused that on October 2, at Teachers Estate, Menengai in Nakuru County, he was found illegally possessing six identity cards.

The court ordered him to deposit a bond of Sh1 million or cash bail Sh500,000 to secure his release.
