Two businessmen have been charged with obtaining over Sh15 million from a trader pretending that they would partner with him in dealing in old colonial antiques.

Jackson Ndungu Chuthi, Peter Karimi Miano of Jaccrep Antiques and Mining Company appeared before Micheni Wendy denied two counts of fraud.

They allegedly obtained the money from Eng. James Ndoria Mwitari by falsely pretending that they would partner with him in the business.

The court heard that with intent to defraud, the duo conspired together to make a certificate of competency serial number 2915/20 purporting it to be a genuine one made and signed by Cabinet Secretary of Petroleum and Mining John Munyes. They allegedly committed the offence on June 29, 2020 at an unknown place in Kenya.

They were separately charged with obtaining the money from Mwitari, an offence they allegedly committed on diverse dates between September 7, 2019 and January 15, 2021 in Nairobi.

The duo allegedly claimed that they would partner with Mwitari in a business dealing in old colonial antiques.

The magistrate ordered each of them to be released on cash bail of Sh500,000 after lawyer Lewis Kanyoko successfully applied for review of their earlier cash bail of Sh 1 million.
