The High Court had directed the deputy registrar of the Judicial Review court to verify Machakos county gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti’s academic papers and make a report on the issue.

The court directed the registrar to check the authenticity of the Ndeti’s bachelors and master’s degree, which she claims to have acquired from HEDD UK.

The directive was made in a case seeking to quash a decision of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission dispute resolution committee clearing Ndeti to contest the post in the August 9 polls.

The Wiper Part candidate has opposed the application arguing that it has no legal basis.

Her lawyer Martin Gitonga that her academic papers were duly verified and recognized by the Commission for University Education and the electoral body in accordance with the law and there is no legal basis for IEBC to strike out her name from the list of cleared gubernatorial candidates for Machakos County.

The case will be mentioned on July 11, to confirm compliance and pick the judgement date.

Wavinya has defended herself arguing CUE recognized her academic qualifications thrice during the 2013, 2017 and the 2022 General elections.

She urged the court to dismiss all orders sought and allow people of Machakos County to elect leader of their choice.

In the petition, a voter wants the High Court to prohibit CUE from recognizing Ndeti’s academic papers until investigations into her academic qualifications are conducted and determination on the authenticity is made.

He also wants the court to compel IEBC to strike out the candidate’s name from the list of candidates cleared by the IEBC.
