A Nairobi court has released top rally driver Maxine Wahome on a cash bail of Sh100,000 pending investigations into alleged claims of assaulting her boyfriend.

Wahome was released on bail after the magistrate rejected an application by the police to detain her for 14 days, pending conclusion of investigations.

The Magistrate said the reasons advanced by the police were not compelling enough to keep her in custody.

The celebrated rally driver is accused of assaulting fellow rally driver and boyfriend Asad Khan, who is currently admitted at Avenue Hospital in critical condition.

The woman was arraigned in court on Tuesday over claims of assaulting the boyfriend but she has denied the allegations saying the injury was self inflicted.

The woman who was in tears told the court she was the victim in the case and needed to be protected.

Police Constable Stephen Kibei said they needed time to complete investigation, which might take long as the boyfriend was still unconscious.

The court heard that the boyfriend had obtained deep cuts on the right ankle which is believed to have been inflicted by the girlfriend.

The investigative officer Kibei told the court that they had received a complaint from the victim’s brother after which they rushed to the house and found the alleged girlfriend still in the house after which they conducted the arrest and assessed the house.

The court also heard that there was a pool of blood in the dinning room and there was also a broken window in which there were some glasses shattered on the outside of the apartment. Upon further examination, the investigative officer also informed the court that he saw something that appeared to be the footprints containing blood by the floor close to the window.

It’s alleged that the accused was trying to go to the hospital on his own after which he might have lost conscious.

Investigating officer told the court that Khan he received information from Preston Court management that his brother has been assaulted by his girlfriend.

Court dismissed application by the driver seeking to gag the media from covering the court proceedings.
