A businesswoman has been charged with obtaining over Sh12 million by false pretense.

Lucy Nyokabi Kiutho appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina and denied obtaining money from several people by promising to assist them get jobs in Canada.

On the first count Nyokabi is accused of obtaining Sh1,164,000 from Judy Mbuya by falsely pretending that she was in a position to secure her travel and employment in Canada.

The charge stated that she committed the offence on diverse dates between March 1 and May 31, this year at Nairobi Central business district in Nairobi County. It is alleged that she committed the fraud jointly with others not before court.

She was further charged with obtaining a total of Sh12,648,500 from 26 different individuals claiming that she would secure them travel and employment in Canada.

Nyokabi is facing a similar offense alongside Serista Njeri Karani, who has been charged with obtaining a total sum of Sh2.8 million.

According to the victim’s lawyer, she is likely to interfere with the evidence in regards to her account which is yet to be frozen.

He further started that the accused is a flight risk since at the time of arrest,it is said that she was finding ways to flee.

She will remain in custody until June 30 when the court will rule on bail application.
