Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and six others now want Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) managing director Daniel Kiptoo punished for contempt of court for adjusting fuel prices despite being stopped by a court order.

In an application to be heard next Monday, the Senator says the Epra boss was served with the court order, suspending the implementation of the Finance Act, 2023.

And despite being served, the regulator adjusted the fuel prices after the value added tax was doubled by the Act.

“Consequently commit him to jail for six months or such period of time as the court may deem fit or proper as would be sufficient to punish the contemnor,” senator told the court.

Omtatah further urged the court to deny Treasury CS, Attorney General and National Assembly to be denied audience until and unless they purge the contempt by among others ensuring MD Kiptoo complies fully with the court order and revert to the prices before the Finance Act, 2023 was enacted.
