Pastor Ezekiel Odero on Friday appeared before a Senate Committee and distanced himself from suspected cult leader Paul Mackenzie.
The preacher was summoned by the Senate to give his side of the story as legislators investigate the proliferation of religious organizations in Kenya.
The preacher who was accompanied by his lawyers distanced himself from the charges facing Mackenzie over the deaths of his followers in Shakahola in Kilifi County.
He further told the media that what matters is the cross which he is mandated to protect and set an example to the future generation.
“It is about the cross, it is about the gospel. There’s a generation waiting for us tomorrow and whatever we do now will guide them into the future. Let us wait for the truth in the Senate, and the truth shall set us free”, stated Ezekiel.
His lawyer Danstan Omari also stated that Pastor Mackenzie of Shakahola will also be in the Senate to clarify the difference between him and Pastor Ezekiel.
He further said that the DCI, AG and Kaya elders from which Pastor Mackenzie’s Church is situated will also be present.
Cliff Ombeta, another lawyer told the media that this is a long awaited opportunity for Ezekiel to appear in public and explain and answer questions regarding his Church and its activities.
“A lot has been said; good, bad, whatever. Today when they ask those questions, the answers shall come about. When you do good deeds, people follow you, people believe in you, people trust in you. All the doubts, all the mad swinging today shall end. The opportunity had risen and we shall take advantage of it,” said Ombeta.
Pastor Odero was accompanied by his Spiritual Father, Pastor Muiru who said that he has been with him since the troubles and all other persecution started. He told the media that their presence was a depiction that they are law abiding citizens from when the issues arose till today.
He further said that they have been complying with everything that the government had put and said that Pastor Ezekiel will always abide with every condition issued.
