A man died today while trying to put out a fire on an Emirate’s passenger jet which crash landed in Dubai.

The firefighter according to Emirates chairman passed on following the dramatic emergency landing.

Emirates chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al-Maktoum said authorities were still investigating the incident, in which 14 other people aboard the plane were injured and admitted to hospitals with minor or moderate injuries.

Around 300 passengers and crew were able to scamper for safety before their plane was engulfed in flames at Dubai International Airport.

An amateur video showed torrents of flame bursting from the front of the Boeing 777-300 jetliner, and then a thick black plume of smoke rising into the sky.

Reuters was unable to verify the footage independently.

Ms Sharon Maryam Sharji a passenger said, “It was actually really terrifying. As we were landing there was smoke coming out in the cabin.”

“People were screaming and we had a very hard landing.

“We left by going down the emergency slides and as we were leaving on the runway we could see the whole plane catch fire. It was horrifying.”

Safety experts said it was too early to pinpoint any cause for the crash. Investigators will scour the wreckage and interview pilots, controllers and witnesses for clues to any technical malfunctions.

MPs now want to make it compulsory for weaning mothers to breastfeed their new born.

They also want Parliament to make a decree that breastfeeding is a must.

Matungulu MP Steven Mule and his Wajir counterpart Abdikadir Ore said there is need to make breastfeeding mandatory to ensure that every child gets the right to this gift of nature.

“Some mothers nowadays fail to breastfeed their kids for fear of tarnishing their physical structure and thus there is need for the government to make breastfeeding compulsory,” said the Wajir legislator.

Mr Ore said the country as per now lacks a clear legislation that can guide mothers on the significance of breastfeeding.

“Breastfeeding contributes to poverty reduction, provides food security for millions of children, even in extremely difficult situations and emergencies enduring Zero hunger in which exclusive breastfeeding and continues breastfeeding for two years and beyond provide high quality nutrients and adequate energy, “the CS said.

Patrick Kabudu, a TNA official has asked the acting Chief Justice to compose a bench of seven judges to hear a constitutional appeal over the prosecution of criminal matters by County government officers.

He says  there is an abuse  of the powers donated to the  director  of public prosecution by the constitution.

Mr Kabundu wants the bench to determine whether the 47 counties and county courts which members of the public feel have been used to milk money from them.

He says that members of the public are being prosecuted without due process of law, saying its the DPP who has the mandate to conduct prosecution in court established under the  judiciary.

The officers  from inspectorate department of the County Governments lack legal knowledge to prosecute which also does not fall under them.

The laws applied by this courts have not been passed by Parliament and the Senate and will be asking the bench to make the finding that Counties have abused the constitution by allowing Kangaroo courts to carry out prosecution.

He says Kenyans will be saved from harassment and  extortion.

Standard Media Group which has been sued by Margaret Wambui a producer with Pillar Praise Productions for stealing her idea.

BY SAM ALFAN.

A producer has sued Standard Media Group for allegedly stealing her idea and turning it into a television programme.

Margaret Wambui, a producer with Pillar Praise Productions, on Wednesday sued the Standard Group, Sophie Kamau and the Kenya Copyright Board.

Through lawyer Kennedy Mwaniki, Ms Wambui accused Ms Kamau of auditioning children with an aim of producing and airing through KTN a programme called ‘Kids Singing‘ Competition.

She claimed that the idea emanated from her programme called ‘Kids Can Sing‘.

“The Standard Group working with Ms Kamau through its brand and television station have in utter disregard of the laws in place, infringed the copyright works titled ‘Kids Can Sing’ by auditioning works similar to Ms Wambui’s and is being promoted, this is bound to continue unless this matter is determined expeditiously,” Mr Mwaniki said.

The court was told that should the programme be allowed to continue, Ms Wambui’s intellectual rights would be violated.

She wants the court to issue orders stopping Ms Kamau, KTN and the Standard Group from producing, promoting and or airing the programme pending the hearing and determination of her case.

According to Ms Wambui, she has a certificate for her audiovisual works of ‘Kids Can Sing‘ dated September 30, 2015.

She said her crew began producing it in May 2014 till December at a cost of Sh13 million entailing 13 episodes.

She claimed that she embarked on search for a local television station to air her programme and met Ms Kamau.

She was then asked to give a trailer of her programme on DVD to check her works for consideration as well as potential sponsors for the show in a bid to assess the feasibility of airing it.

Ms Wambui alleged that Ms Kamau told her to await further communication but in the process of waiting, she learnt that KTN was inviting children aged 3 to 13 for a kids singing competition between July 16 and 23.

She wrote to the Kenya Copyright Board on July 4 regarding her discontent and sought protection but has allegedly never received any response.

“If you search my ‘Kids Can Sing‘ programme and that of KTN on YouTube, one can see they appear similar, owing to this similarity I stand to lose financially as they will air my infringed works any moment,” Ms Wambui said.

She wants it declared that her intellectual rights have been infringed, the Standard Group be barred from airing the said programme and that she be compensated for copyright infringement.

Others yet to be charged are chief executive William Okedi, tendering committee chairman John Muturi, procurement officer Antony Munyui, Zeka Wekesa, George Murimi and Florina Mwikali.

Wekesa and Munyui appeared before senior principal magistrate Lawrence Mugambi but did not plead to the charges.

Mugambi said all those accused needed to be in court to save time.

The prosecution had earlier requested the court to issue a warrant of arrest against Murimi saying he had not been cooperating.

It was reported that some of the accused had left the country on official duty.

They allegedly facilitated the illegal funding of 86 non-registered NGOs in the campaign against drugs and alcohol abuse.

They were also accused of being behind the withdrawal of up to Sh500 million, disguised as advocacy funds, from one of Nacada’s banks accounts.

The officials will plead to the charges on August 17.

BY CORRESPONDENT.

Sub-Saharan Africa countries are losing about Sh200 billion (2 billion dollars) through migration of expert clinicians trained in Africa to Western Countries.

Cabinet Secretary for Education, Dr Fred Matiang’i said that South Africa and Zimbabwe suffer the worst economic losses due to doctors emigrating, whileas Australia, Canada, Britain and the United States benefit most from recruiting doctors trained abroad.

Speaking during  the official opening of Medical Education Partnership Initiative (MEPI) symposium, a project that supports medical health training and research development in sub-Saharan Africa, the CS expressed concern that the migration of trained health workers from poor countries to richer ones worsens the problem of an already weak health systems in low-income countries trying to battle epidemics of infectious diseases like HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) and malaria.

“There is need for African countries to develop strategies that should reverse the situation”, Dr. Matiang’i said , noting that a number of African governments spend between Sh2.1 million (21,000 dollars), the figure for Uganda, and Sh5.9 Million ($59,000 dollars), in South Africa, to train a doctor, only to see them in many cases migrate to richer countries.

In Kenya, he said majority of Kenyan doctors are migrating to the US, UK and others, but more so to South Africa.
